The Mirror Series is an ongoing project. It includes images from Vienna, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Taipei, Baltimore, New York, Dallas, Syracuse, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chicago. It is inspired from the practice of jugalbandi in Mughal architecture where architectural patterns on one side of a façade are mirrored on its facing side. While I am deeply invested in photography as a tool for documentation and social and political commentary, this work highlights the many patterns and symmetries that emerge when elements from the urban environment are removed from their contextual setting and digitally manipulated. The photographer, the subject and technology perennially mediate our conception of reality. With this work I have attempted to embrace digital manipulation as another form of mediation that forefront the many ‘hyper-realities’ that emerge through this process of abstraction.
